Did he jump up and down on a couch while shooting the bad guys?  Was Oprah watching?

Open Range with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall. There is about 15 mins. of solid shooting at the end. Even a little double barrel action too!
check it out,   Jim

Open Range, hands down.  Runner up goes to Crossfire Trail with Tom Sellick.  How about Clint Eastwood in 'Unforgiven'!  That has to rank right up there too!

I would like to ad my $.0005 worth here.

  1) WAY OF THE GUN
The last 10 min. in that movie is very good.
  2)HANNIE CAULDER
How can you have three bad guys like Ernest Borgnine, Strother Martin and Jack Elam and not have a great movie. Robert Culp and Raquel Welch were also very good.
  3) HEAT
This is the movie with Al pacino and Robert Deniro need I say more.
  4)THE PROFESSIONALS
Bert Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Jack Palance, and many others.
5)PAT GARRET AND BILLY THE KID.
  Very good
  6)TOM HORN
Steve Mc Qeen Semi-authentic and very good film.
  7)THE WILD BUNCH   DIRECTORS CUT
Most movies with guns or shoot outs are compaired to this one and with good reason.

All of these movies are some of the best in my opinion and are not in any type of order. I am sure that I missed some great ones. This is just a short list that came to mind.

Been years since I last saw it but wasn't n there some pretty good gun handling in QuigleyDown Under with Tom Selleck in Austrailia?

Might have to watch it again so I can remember.

:) All very good shows, but how the heck do you leave out Lonesome Dove. Man I love that show. When ole Gus shoots that guy from about 500 yards with a Winchester that was great.

I love most of the ones already mentioned here.

Their was one quite a few years ago that I thought was terrific too, but I can't remember the name? It was about a blind cival war veteran that was a gun slinger of sorts. I always thought that movie was pretty daggone good!

As far as westerns go, I think when it comes to a gun fight, Clint Eastwood plays a gun fighter better than anybody else.

When it comes to just pure out guts, and principles, fights, and my favorite, the occasional open handed slap to some low life, John Wayne is positively "The Man" in my book. If every man in the USA was like the characters he played, this country would sure be a lot different!

I am w/ glance on this one. Josey is one you want on your side in a scuffle. But far as just being plain slick Ringo in tombstone is a hard act to beat.

My list:  (my spelling may leave something to be desired)

1) The Outlaw Josie Wales

2) The Magnificent Seven

3) Gunfight at the OK Corral

4) Any of the "spaghetti westerns"

5) Winchester '73 (not so much for the gunslinging but any movie that has a rifle for a star has to be on this list).

6) The Dirty Harry movies (especially the first)

7) True Grit

You guys forgot John Wayne in True Grit.  The reins in his teeth, a Colt in one hand and a Winchester in the other.

I enjoy almost every one you have mentioned .  But if your looking for a movie that may emulate REAL western gunfights You might consider The Unforgiven, High Noon, Shane, and a half dozen more I can'y remember. I guess thats why I had to quit teaching History of the American West. 8)

My favorite is probably the shootout at the motel in, "The Getaway", with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw.  Made me a believer in the mighty 45ACP in cool hands.  And the pump 12 gauge is pretty awesome.  Sam Peckinpah directed, great slo-mo scenes, too.  If you haven't seen the original, it's worth a buck or two.

Josie Wales, hands down.  But how can forget the guy who started it, for many of us.  Gunsmoke...with James Arness.  He also did a bang up job in the mini series How the West Was Won with Bruce Box.... something or other.

I have XM radio in my fishing tackle/gun workshop and the radio version of Gunsmoke is often on.  William Conrad a.k.a. Jake and the Fat Man played Marshall Dillon on the radio.
