Need help with Synthetic Thumbhole
« on: January 02, 2006, 11:13:16 AM »
I am looking for manufacturers of synthetic thumbhole stocks for a T/C varmint shooter I'm putting together. I also want to use one with a  high cheek piece because of the 8.5 x 25 x 50 Leupold scope and mounts. Can anyone give any feed back on synthetic stock makers to use or stay away from. Are there any drawbacks to using synthetic vs wood? Thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Synthetic Thumbhole Stock for Encore

You can get a thumbhole synthetic stock in Realtree Hardwoods camo from Fox Ridge Outfitters.  I like mine quite well.

I think the only advantage of wood over synthetics is asthetics.

If your talking Encore I got a T/C Thumbhole syn. not long ago from Mid-South Shooters Supply. Great feel to it.
For the Contender I'm using the Appalachian stock available thru Fox Ridge. Not pretty    but very functional and again, great "feel".
I've also added a elastic cartridge holder to both buttstocks and slipped a piece of foam sleeping bag pad in to raise the comb a little. Now it's nice and soft too!
Hurrah fer mountain doin's- :D

What I have is an older Contender. I have not used it much and will be selling the 22 and 223 barrels on e bay soon. I am looking forward to finding a thumbhole stock and forearm along with a stainless 22 or so inch 17 Remington barrel to pop a few varmints with. If anyone out there has any feed back about thumbhole stocks please speak up. I am alway thankful of those who can offer their experiences. Thanks.

Check with Midway.  They show a Bell&Carlson synthetic thumbhole stock, for the Contender, in their current Master Catalog.
