.204 Handi recoil
« on: January 02, 2006, 02:28:43 PM »
So, for Christmas, I got some .204 dies, putting me a step closer to getting a .204.  I have been eyeing the Handi for some time now, but I have a question about recoil.  To be honest, while the velocity and trajectory are HUGE selling points for me on this caliber, I want to know a little more about recoil, particularly with a Handi Rifle.  Are the .204 Handi's heavy enough that when you shoot, you can see your hits?  Many of the shots I plan on taking will be between 10 and 200 yards most likely, but when I really crank up the magnification for the long shots, will it jump too much for me to see hits?  I am planning on using the 39 grain Blitzkings, at least initially, and my targets will be ground squirrels and rockchucks for this gun.  Will the standard 22 inch barrel model allow me to see the hits?  If not, what about the longer barreled Varmint version?
Thanks,
Loki

With a .204, I think ANY weight will allow you to see your hits! But the Handis are heavy enough to do it; even my .223 Ultra with a heavy barrel comes close. I don't have a .204, but my .17HMR has a little less bounce than an air rifle. I don't think you'll have a problem...
Life was so much simpler when I thought I knew everything...

Loki_762,
I may not be shooting as small a critters as you, but I will say every coyote I've shot, with my 204 Handi, I've watched fall in the scope.

i love shooting small stuff with the 204 (they go "puff" nicly with the 204). i shoot a full house load with a 40gr V-max and with my varmint scope  http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=156666  ,hat doesn't have real good eye relief, i can see hits up to about 10X maybe 12X but then any higher i can't. now with a better scope you may do a little better.

BTW i have the standard 22 inch bull barrel.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while
