Cylinder slides front to back when ejecting shells
« on: January 02, 2006, 05:23:54 PM »
What is wrong, and how do I fix it.  The cylinder is loose, and if I remove the round ejection rod it slides easily off of the shaft that retains the cylinder.  It would seem that something should retain the cylinder?  I do not see anything to do that.
It will rotate and fire every round, when loaded.  It is annoying that when I go to eject the empty shells, the whole cylinder moves.  If I hold the cylinder the shells eject fine, but this should not be.
Really like the gun.  Very accurate and fun to shoot.  I bought the gun about 5 years ago used.  Just started to have this problem.

It is a 357 Mag with the 2", 4" and 6" barrels.

This is not an unusual problem; the cylinder is supposed to be retained by a little "bump" on the left side of the frame (it's actually on the sideplate.)

On earlier guns, this stop was press-fit and has a tendency to work itself into the frame, so that it isn't tall enough to catch the cylinder. The result, as you've found, is that the cylinder can slide right off the crane.

The solution is to pull the sideplate off, and either stake or silver-solder the stop back into place.

Hope this helps.

I have a couple dan wessons.. model 14&15, The 14 has no "bump"it is just a hole. still the cylinder is held in place by the forcing cone.. I think that is the proper termniolgy. the model 15 has the "bump" intact..

My model just has a half moon shaped hole.  How is the cylinder to be held in place when ejecting the shells?
