Graybeard,

I read your evaluation of the Barnes XPB fired from the 454 Casull. At the time, the XPB failed to expand on wood, clay or water jugs. Have you had any better results from this bullet since you wrote the original article?
I was interested in  trying the XPB but was concerned about using it on big hogs after seeing the results that you had.

I haven't shot any game but have had them expand in wet paper.

I use the Barnes X in 30-06 and 300 Win. Mag.  I have only recovered one bullet, and it was from a 250 pound hog.  The X bullet mushroomed beautifully with about 2.5x expansion!  Unfortunately, your post deals with another Barnes X-type bullet, but I just wanted to pass on this related info.

I have used the MZ's in my muzzleloader for years and they look like the same critter to me. I know they work on deer in my blackpowder, could'nt tell you about water or wet paper cuz I don't hunt them. I talk to a guy named Ty at Barnes and he told me this bullet is made to open at 1000 FPS ,don't think that will be a problem out of my 454 Raging Bull. I am going to use them this fall so I guess we shall find out then, if I am lucky enough to shoot a deer!

No but it may be only he lot I have that exhibit this problem. Dunno. I've not yet had a chance to use on game so can't say if it will expand there or not. BUT as a rule water will expand an HP if anything is going to. IT doesn't these.
