What kind of reloading dies/ equipment do I need to reload for a 6tcu?  I saw that Redding makes a nice 3 die set (full length, neck, and seater) for around $90.  Is this all I need?  How do you trim these for OAL?

I am planning on buying the reloading equipment first and then get a 12" barrel.

Thanks for your help.

That's all I have to use; only trim if case length determines - I haven't shot my brass enough for that yet. Unless you are set on a green box, Hornady also makes 6mm TCU dies cheaper (or at least they did when I bought mine).

I have the Hornady set and it makes awesome ammo. Runout measures .001 or less on the neck to body and .001 or less on the bullet to body. I use mine for an Xp-100 in 6mm tcu and it shoots fantastic. I would go with the Hornady dies and save the money. I would use either Winchester or Remington virgin cases. I never use Federal cases. The Lapua cases are nice but I have not had any luck forming them. But then I was trying to form them to 7mm tcu, they might work better for the 6mm.

I bought a 6mm Remington Lee case trimmer and had it shortened and re-threaded to the 6mm tcu length by my machinist.

Good luck with a great cartridge.

I bought my 7mm TCU Barrel used and got a set of dies with it.  Maybe you should wait til you buy the barrel, the person selling it may have a set of dies to go with it they are willing to part with for a few more bucks.  I also got a few hundred pieces of formed 7mm TCU brass.  That was another story, it had been neck turned and wouldn't hold a bullet, so watch out for that if someone throws in brass.

If you are buying a new barrel, nevermind.

Or, try Ebay, Gunbroker, etc.  for dies, I have gotten a good deal there on occasion on odd dies.

I personally prefer RCBS, with Redding a close second.  But for some odd calibers, I do have Hornady, Lyman, CH4D (they are all about #3 to me), and LEE dies because I just couldn't justify the cost of the better brand (in my opinion) for the limited amount I was going to shoot that caliber.

I will say the tapered expander on the Hornady 9.3x57 forms them great from 8x57 brass, I really like how Hornady did that.
