My Airgun is Leaking!!
« on: January 03, 2006, 08:51:11 AM »
I got a Daisy Powerline 880 about two months ago. Recently, i've noticed that the air chamber leaks slowly :x . Is there any way to fix this? :?

i'm afraid i'm not familiar with that rifle, but i am somewhat familiar with that particular problem.  trouble is, it could be almost anything.

the seals could just be dry.  if that's the case just a touch of oil/vaseline might do the trick, depending on the type of seal.

if the problem started because you left the gun gassed up for an extended period of time, a seal may have been damaged.  there's really no way around that except to replace whatever was damaged.

offhand without knowing anything about the rifle that's the best i can do.
When the whole world is crashing down around me, atleast I'll have my SKS.

The 880 isn't a CO2 gun, its a multipump pneumatic, so it isn't a gas absorbtion problem. The problem is one of two things- Either the exhaust valve stem seal is leaking, or the check valve is leaking. Pump it up and stick the muzzle in a bowl of water. If the stem seal is leaking, you'll see bubbles coming from out of the barrel. If not, its probably the check valve. Pump it up and let it sit a minute or two, then open the pump arm again slightly with the gun upside down. If the arm jumps out or slowly rises on its own than the check valve seal is leaking.
Putting a drop or two of oil in the gun may help for a while, but it probably won't last. If its a new gun chances are the seal is bad.  Return it and get a new one.
