arrow speed with whisker biscuit
« on: January 03, 2006, 01:56:21 PM »
I'm probably going to change to a Whisker Biscuit on my bow.  It's a Matthews Q2, shooting Beeman ICS Hunter carbon arrows (8.9 gpi) at 29" and 100 grain muzzy broadheads. I'm currently pulling 60 pounds on the draw weight and shoot off of a prong-style rest. I haven't tested for arrow speed in the current set-up, but I was wondering if there is a noticeable drop in arrow speed with the WB when the fletching passes through the whiskers. In other words, do the whiskers increase drag on the arrow? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

Get the WB you will love it!  My son has one and convinced me to get one.  It's great! So his hunting buddy got one and so did my other son.  It's quiet and your arrow can't fall off.  I see no difference in arrow speed.  The three deer I shot this year must have thought the arrow was too fast!  Jim

i just got a whisker bisquit put on my bow day before yesterday and i'm already sold on it. as long as you draw slowly you won't hear much if anything. i can't tell a difference in arrow spee if there is any. i doubt there's much.

I bought my WB off one of my buddies. He go a fall away rest so I bought the WB...After about half the season he go another WB. He was all the time putting his arrow back on the rest while I was carring my bow over over my shoulder and never having to worry about the arrow falling off. I'm sure it slows your arrow down a little bit...But I don't think the deer have radar guns to check the speed of your arrow befor it hits them :)

I did notice that the WB was more sinsitive...If everything isn't perfect mine wouldn't shoot right. I never notice when my anchor points weren't exactly right when I had my old prong style rest...But with the WB it made for a bad shot. No big deal though just made me a better shot.
DEER SEASON IS OVER, BUT THERE IS STILL RABBIT, SQUIRREL AND SPRING GOBBLER.  :biggun:

I grew up shooting a recurve. I think anything over 160 fps is fast. Even at that speed, my arrow will shoot through a deer, so worrying about whatever small speed loss could theoretically happen with a WB is, in my opinion, worrying about stuff that doesn't matter.

I use a fall-away, not a WB. Personal choice is all it is. I don't like anything contacting my arrow once I've released it.

You want to use what ever works for you in the field. If the shaft falls off of a tm hunter type rest when drawling the bow go with the wb. My first chioce of hunting rests is an odd saftey spring type rest that browning sold for a short period of time. Quite easy to use and no parts to complicate things. Never had any isues. If it is not broke I do not fix it.
keep your powder dry !!!
