hi, for the holidays i recieved a marlin bolt action .22mag , i have a $250.00 scope own it and i hunt squierals and coons with it and i was wondering what yall think about the .22mag and how far yall sighting in at and what advantages does the .22mag got that .17 doesnt i been considering buying one to plink with and what does yalls do to squierrels when yall shoot them thanks alot

well , for the most part with + or - dependign on grn wieght, mostly, you can have  about a 4 inch max pbr out to about150 yds, if you zero about 1.5 inches high at 50 yds. as long as your scope is not sitting inches above your bore line. in other words, you could shoot down about a 4 inch diameter tube that started from your muzzle, and went out in front of you for about 150 yds. still have plenty of punch left, as well. here are som e good 22 magspecs,

I sight mine in at 1" above center at 100',most will sight in at 100'.I shoot the vmax, the 40 grainers I would zero at 100'.The Vmax for me are good to 200(Accuracy),I wouldnt go much further than 150 with the 40 grainers.I,m new to the mag so you will have try for yourself .

I would stick with lighter bullets for squierals. The 40 grainers are real distructive to tiny critters great for coyotes out to 100yrd. I like the 22wmr over the hmr it carries more energy out to the 100+ line then the hummer plus its a stright wall case kind of a mini 45-70 :grin:. What model did you get anyway?
