Mini 30 or SKS?
« on: January 04, 2006, 12:53:39 PM »
Im looking for a nice handling rifle for predators & varmints, and occasionally deer. How much better of a gun is the mini 30 than an SKS?  What kind of accuracy am I looking at with each gun?  I would also be doing a lot of plinking with it, and I just think the Mini 30 would be an overall fun gun to have, but I don't want to spend way more than I have to to get the same results.

Thanks

The Mini 30s are nice, as are all Ruger firearms. But from what I have shot/seen/read, you might as well just buy a new condition SKS for what-$150-200?
Same accuracy, and a LOT less money invested. But it won't be a Ruger. Depends on if you want to pay for the name.
Me, I'll take a SKS anyday. Too fun, too cheap to pass up.

I own both and other than that the Mini 30 has a factory removable clip I much prefer the SKS.  Accuracy is better on my SKS.  In fact I will probably trade off the Mini 30 this weekend for something I will actually shoot as all this rifle does is collect dust.  There is nothing wrong with the Ruger, it functions flawlessly, itÂ’s just my preference.  Better yet look for a Saiga in 7.62/39 Russian and have the best of both worlds.
