Stewed Squirrels
2 Squirrels
2 qt Boiling water
1/2 lb Fresh corn
1/4 lb Fresh lima beans
3 Or 4 tomatoes, chopped
1 1/2 ts Sugar
2 Or 3 potatoes, in chunks
1/2 Onion, sliced
1 Salt and pepper to taste
3 tb Butter
Cut the squirrels into pieces. Put into the boiling water along with the rest of the ingredients, except the butter. cover and simmer for about 2 hours; add the butter and simmer another 15 minutes. Bring to a full boil, remove from the stove and serve. By the way, grey squirrel is even better than red squirrel and they are both better tasting when hunted in the fall. Young squirrels may be fried.

I have not ried it yet but I hope to get a couple of bushytails on monday.
have fun! get it done with a 308.

Thank You very much! Sounds great ! I'll surely try it. My husband has his own receipe's but to me is missing sometrhing! So I thought I'd give this a try. I am just getting into hunting this year ! It has become a family thing! Last year my husband bought me one gun with interchangable barrels.I shoot muzzel, then change out the barrel to a 20 gage, then change out to 243. I'm still in begining stage but hey at lease I'm trying right! I've gotten comforable with 20 gage  :-D The muzzel well lets just say I need more work   .Lets see what the range brings me today .Once again thank you very much!

here is a good recipe.sounds more complicated than it is.take your cleaned squirrels and soak them  at least 2 hours(overnight is good too) in a bowl filled with cold water, a cup or two of vinegar(apple or white),some slices of onion and a little black pepper. after soaking ,place the squirrels and marinade in a pot( you can use the microwave) and bring to a light boil for a few minutes(basically par-boil).remove from heat, let cool till you can handle them.roll in flour spiced as you like it,then fry.after frying make a gravy with the drippings, return the squirrels to the pan.cover pan and cook 20 minutes or so.serve with biscuits and rice or mashed potatoes and several napkins per person. gets compliments whenever i make it.

That makes my mouth water!  When I started hunting (20 years ago) it was for squirrels.  My buddy and I would kill a mess and give them to his grandmother.  On our next hunting trip we'd have a lunch of fried squirrel, squirrel gravy and homemade biscuits.  As the years passed we had less time to squirrel hunt (due to grown up responsibilities) but we still found time to go three or four times a year.   When we would come in for lunch from deer hunting, we'd always find our favorite meal, fried squirrel, squirrel gravy and homemade biscuits.  The Lord saw fit to take his grnadmother almost two years ago, and I haven't hunted or eaten squirrel since then.  Our deer hunting trips aren't the same as they used to be.  I'd love to have that meal one more time, but more than that I'd love to have one afternoon with his grandma.
