Rifle, shotgun, muzzle loader help
« on: January 05, 2006, 01:43:10 AM »
Hello,
I have been doing some looking at the NEF/H&R system and wanted to get a rifled 12 guage barrel and a 50 cal muzzleloader barrel to have as rainy day hunting guns for Northern VA whitetails.  I have been unable to get the folks at either local gunshop or get info from the website on which to buy...If I buy the black powder magnum reciever, can I have it sent back to be fitted with the shotgun barrel?  If I buy the shotgun, can I have it fitted with the black powder barrel?  If I get either, can I get a rifle barrel for it?
I''m sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I couldn't find it on the search feature here.

thanks and regards,
 graycg

Howdy Graycg,

In general shotgun (Sb1) receivers can be fitted with either shotgun or muzzle loader barrels but not rifle barrels and rifle (Sb2) receivers can be fitted with shotgun, muzzle loader or rifle barrels.  As usual there are some exeptions.  The following link takes you directly to H&R's barrel accesory program web page.

Brett,
Thanks for the quick comeback and the info!  So then my best bet is to buy a rifle, and send it to NEF and have the shotgun and muzzleloader barrels fitted by them.  I can do that!  I am a Contender guy, have 5 frames and can't keep track of the barrels, long and short, but I just can't choke down paying $250 or so for a 45x209 barrel given how badly the accuracy reviews are on the 45 TC barrels.  And I can't even consider starting investment in the Encore, I just don't have the coin for that.  I'll look for a resonably priced used rifle and start from there.

If you have any other recommendations, please let me know.

thanks again,
 Graycg

Graycg,

Welcome aboard! If you would be thinking about a .243, they make some Huntsman Combos and the .243 / .50 caliber combo has a SB2 rifle frame and can have other rifle barrels and the shotgun barrels of your choice fitted (except 10 ga and 12 ga Ultra Slug). The two other shotgun/muzzleloader combos have SB1 frames and can not have rifle barrels fitted.

Just thought I would let you know they were availabe and you could be two thirds there with one purchase. Just checked Sports South and they have the .243/50 cal (SB2-543) combo in stock, they are out of the other two combos. So anyone that orders from SS can order it for you if it may be what you are looking for.

Here is a link to the Combos.
