Springfield pistol?
« on: January 05, 2006, 07:04:33 AM »
I was looking at the Springfield XD in both the 9mm and 40cal.  This will normally be used for protection (camping, traveling ect..)  I am also thinking about starting to get into competion shooting at the local club.  Will this firearm be accurate and a good quality.  I'm on a budget under $600, if any one has an input I would like to hear it.

The Springfield XD is a quality pistol that will be way under your $600 budget...Springfield just came out with a 45 ACP model to go along with the 9mm, 40S&W and the 45 GAP...If I were to purchase an XD for personal protection I might opt for the 45 ACP model when it hits the stores.  If you are looking for a lower cost option when it comes to shooting then you may want to purchase the 9mm...FMJ rounds can be found relatively cheap...

I have the 40 cal, Tactical. It has proven to very reliable and accurate and a good buy. I will likley get the 45 acp after all the bugs are worked out. I will waite until it is proven reliable etc. You can always upgrade and trade in a 40 cal. Though you will probaly keep it and buy another XD in 45 acp.

I've also got a Tactical XD in 40.  I love it.  Great for accuracy, easy to clean and interchange barrels.  Its fun to shoot.  Mine doesn't seem to be picky about the ammo either.  Shoots everything from the most expensive self defense rounds to the cheapest plinking ammo.  Plus it doesn't mind reloads either.  There are quite a few up grades as far as sights, grips, barrels, and recoil springs available at pistol-gear.com.  For the money I don't think you can beat it.
