should I do this?
« on: January 05, 2006, 06:30:07 PM »
I have been absent from this site for a couple of years now. But since my financial situation has changed, I am back.

My question is this:  I have a 336cs in .35 Remington that I got as new from a pawn shop last year. The front sight was replaced with a AO front sight and still has the factory rear sight. It has a weaver base that I mounted a 4x Bushnell to since the sight combo was not suitable to me.  I have a notion
to have the barrel cut to 16.5" and remount the AO sight, add the AO rear sight, and cut the mag tube flush with the barrel.

What am I giving up in terms of velocity and gaining in terms of muzzle blast & recoil?  I also need some input on how accuracy might be affected.

Thanks
JR

Not much really. Even in a 14" Contender barrel you get within 100 fps of the same velocity as you do from a standard Marlin rifle. I'm not personally a fan of such short rifles but if you are you're not giving up much ballistically.

I did one at 17 inch and really like it you give up about nothing. The gun has accounted for a couple boar since with 200 grain rcbs cast bullets and has done well. It acutally shot better after the barrel chop.
