Remington's new Woodmaster 750 ?
« on: January 06, 2006, 06:32:39 AM »
Red something in a gun rag about this being a new model for 06 but they are not available yet. Mentioned they had a number of redesigned features. Not on the Remington Web site.  Anyone know about this ?

Am I the only one that this link doesn't work for?  I have tried it several times, and it won't work.  Can someone please post the picture.

Should have mentioned they are offering it in .35 whelen in both rifle and carbine versions. Nice to hear from you again Rick. I'm still packing my old. 358 blr81 for bear, Killed a Manitoba Record with it in 2004. I think I'm going to retire from bear hunting for awhile, now that I'm on a pension, the money just isn't there.

Country Boy:

Congratulations on tHe bear! 8)  :D

I still use my BLR in .358 for deer, but I now have a Rem. 7600 in .35 Whelen that I carry for moose.

I've been retired for over 4 years now, and I'm hunting more than I ever have before - though its all in Ontario.  I figure that when age catches up with me and I can't get around any more, I'll cut down my hunting and pay off the debts I'm running up now.

Hello everyone, :D

I have been eagerly awaiting a photo of the 750 Woodsmaster and have not been able to get the Harrisoutdoors link to work. I stumbled accross this one at Field and Stream and now I know that I NEED another rifle!!

And the fact that they are chambering it for 35 Whelen!!   I called my local dealer and placed an order today.

Hi Countr Boy,

I ordered it From Wholesale Sports. It took some convincing, but they called Remmington to find out that they would be available. The catalouge # is 224084 and price was $699.00 Canadian.  Apparently they will not be shipping from the factory until Late February.

It looks like it might have a composite trigger housing so it should weigh less. Does anyone have any specs on it or a description of the changes?

The Remington Arms site has their new 2006 catalog shown now but it does not list the 750  for 2006...what gives here they going to announce the 750 at the shot show?

I went to my dealer today and was quoted 635.00. The price was good for standard and carbine. I'm very serious thinking about getting the 181/2 in 308. They come with the limbsaver recoil pad. Remington calls it R3. Also, they have swivels for a sling. It sounds like Remington is listening.

Remington link to the M750

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_750_woodsmaster.asp

In the field, patience is a virtue but it’s also true what they say about speed. One season with the new Model 750™ Woodsmaster™ will be proof enough. Featuring an improved gas system for faster, smoother cycling and a balanced, low-profile design that handles like lightning, it’s a deadly-quick addition to our centerfire autoloading line. Rapid follow-ups are its speciality, but famed Remington one-shot accuracy comes standard.

The Model 750™ replaces our wood-stocked Model 7400™ offerings and features a restyled American walnut fore-end and stock with machine-cut checkering. Felt recoil is diminished by its ultra-efficient gas action and the addition of our revolutionary R3® recoil pad. Throw that narrow window wide open with the quickest gun in the woods, the new Model 750 Woodsmaster*

The new forend looks hookey to me.  I guess I am more of an American traditionalist and not an European.

I would buy one of these provided the chamber is plated to prevent rust. The biggest problem I have seen with the 7400 guns is that the chambers rust and a shell gets stuck in there after fireing.  I am interested but waiting to see how good a job Remington has done with the gun.  If the gun is an improvement, and that is a big if, then I will have to decide between the .308 carbine or the 35 Whelan carbine.  The 35 Whelan is overkill for shooting 130 pound deer, the shells are more expensive and I just don't need it, however need never enters into these discussions! Yee Hah ! I actually got to fondletwo yesterday at Arcadia Valley Sporting Goods in Arcadia Mo. One was a .35 Whelen 22" bbl and the other a .06 carbine. they look fantastic, great wood and outstanding chekering The fore end has a R checkered into it,it has sling studs, the new recoil pad and both handle and operate  slick as butter (the carbine was really easy to handle)  It does not have a european style forearm or butstock like the Browning short trac !
Unfortunately they are asking the msrp price. Wal-mart will be shipping soon for 150.00 less. I've already put in an order. Now if my wife just find out.

Do you think Wal Mart will be able to get the 35 Whelen Carbine?

Can't say for sure, but the manager indicated that all models would be available. Just have to ask I guess. I can tell you that 06 carbine I handled fit likwe a glove and was sweet. But there were no flies on the regular rifle either.

I like the looks of the new 750 and if i were to go semi again i would go with the 22" 35 Whelen ( have enough 308's and 06's)

Tanoose,
I am getting one of the 18 inch carbines in 35 Whelen in May, how much velocity do you think I am going to give up from the 22 inch barrel?

It would be abput like my .358 winchester with a 22" bbl but my .358 has a 20" bbl and I get 2370 with the speer 250.Right at 2450 with the .225 grains and near 2600 with the 200 grn hornady. Nothing has ever walked off after being hit  with any of these loads. I used the .250 for bear and the 200 for deer.

Jimmy i dont know how much velocity you would lose per inch in that caliber . There are charts that could give you an idea but i know it wouldn't matter as far as making a desision for hunting. I myself will get the 22" and i can always cut it to 20" or 18" later on. If you start at 18" you cant add on. Just my way of thinking I did the same with my 760 pump it started out with a 22" and is now 18"
