In sandy soil using a trap pan covering is a must or sand will sift underneath the pan. I prefer to use one in all conditions, it ensures that a heavy rain fall will not wash dirt under the pan. I've used screens and pre-cut canvas over the pan and several things underneath the pans but still prefer the age-old waxed paper. I tesr off the right size piece of paper, flip up the loose jaw, tear a slit on one side of the paper and lay it over the pan, tucking the slit side underneath the solid jaw and lowering the loose jaw over the paper to hold the paper down and keep anything from getting underneath. Unlike other covers i've mentioned, the waxed paper is always sure to be odor free as long as one doesn't store it next to their lure bottles. Ace
