Ruger Single Six 4 5/8
« on: January 07, 2006, 02:46:09 PM »
I just purchased a Ruger Single Six 4 5/8 bbl. Both sights are black and I can't  them well enough to shoot well. I will use this gun for backup while deer hunting (22 mag).  Does anyone make red ramp frt.site or White outline rear.  How about apperture rear and post frt.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Contact Ruger and have them send you a single screw Patridge style front sight like they have on the Mark II semi-auto pistols. The sight has two angles on the rear edge.  Paint the top angle florescent orange, red, pink, or whatever color you can pick up with your eyes.  The way the Patridge sight is designed, you can put the gun in and out of a holster and not wear away the paint.  The Patridge sight is the same height and takes the same screw as the stock revolver sight.  If you paint only the upper angle, you can learn to hold-over without having to adjust your rear sight.  This works great when sitting in a field full of pocket gophers that could be up to 100 yards out.

Enjoy that gun!!

If the Single Six takes the same adjustable sights as the Mark II, I just ordered and installed the Hi Vis frt and V notch rear set for the Mark II. Fiber optic frt sight and matching rear sight makes it very easy to see and easy to instal.

I have no idea if it will fit the single six, as I don't own any revolvers with adjustable sights. Mu Super Single Six's are fixed sights and in .32H&R Mag.  Now that I think of it, ALL my revolvers and all of the semi autos but the Mark II 22/45 have non adjustable sights.

Think I might sell the Mark II just so they are all the same!!  NOT!!!!!

Greeenriver(Don't know if this will help or not, hope so)

The rear sights are NOT the same.    You can however, paint the rear sight blade a contrasting color, ie blue blade with orange front.  Just don't aim at any Denver Broncos.   :-D

Can the beaded front sight from the hunter model, like a .22 rifle sight, be used on a regular single six.  I want something more precise than that brick of a front sight for 25 & 50yd shooting.

I ordered the oneraggedhole sight and plan on combining it with the front sight listed in the article below.

I use nailpolish, it's cheap and works good, lots of colors, will stand up to weather once its dried, plus easy to remove and redo if you need to.  I also found some glow in the dark stuff for hunting when its dark.

I have put about 300rds through my Single Six since changing the sights and all I can say is WOW!  Much more accurate and really, really fast acquiring the target.  Most of my shooting is done with a bow, so going to a peep on the handgun really works for me.

here is what I did. I drilled a shallow hole almost as wide as the front sight near the top of the blade and put a drop of site color in it. When I look down the barrel all I see is an orange line near the top of the blade.
I didn't drill mine quite close enought to the top so there is a little blade sticking above it but I have learned to compensate. And it doesn't wear off because it is below the surface of the blade.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I got all the parts by May 1st, just didn't have the time to work on the gun.
Finally in July tried to install the front site, no luck. The site ramp was easy but not the blade.
Tried the c-clamp, no luck. Finally took it to my gunsmith about a month ago, he fixed it in about 5 min.
Right tool for the job makes a difference. He didn't even charge me for the work.
You wouldn't beleive the difference. I can shoot quater size groups at 25 yds with Wolf MT.
Before I couldnt even get 3 in. group.
THANKS for all the info, wouldn't have known what to do without all the advice from this forum.
