I in no way meant to put the 10/22 down, it is just trhat they do not seem to have the accuracy that they started with. They still have the great versatility and reliability..but out-of-the-box the 7000 is much more accurate.
I have one of the first 10/22s produced, it is serial #66XX...yes, just four digits.
I bought that when I was a young soldier in Germany...bought it in the post R&G club.
I put a cheap old (new then) Weaver B4, tip-off scope for about $7, went down to the local German range..and after sight in with RWS ammo, began to beat the 50 meter groups being put forth by German shooters..with some high-end bolt .22s...
I have owned other 10/22s since then and none of them shoot like the old " grandpa " 10/22 !
I had to " trick out " the later ones in order to compete with the " old guy "..
The 7000 I owned would edge out the tricked out 10/22s I had for accuracy...
