Great cal?

Looking for an accrate round for deer, and varments.I was thinking of the 243-2506 any suggestions?.pan.

Both the .243 Winchester and the .25/06 have an excellent reputation for accuracy and both would be good for varmints as well as for deer.  Of course there are others that would be just as good...that's complicating things though.  When you ask for the "best" caliber you'll get all sorts of opinions.

the difference is the 243 is based on the 308 case while the 25-06 is based on the 30-06. I believe the 25-06 would be a little faster in the same weight bullet.  seems 243 are a little easier to find. I like the 243 with  the 87 gr BTHPs.

My vote would be the .257 Roberts!!!
It is a great deer cartridge-I have one and was lucky enough to kill a big fat doe with it this year. She ran 30 yards and piled up.
I love my .257 Bob!!!!!!!!!

Either the 243 or the 25-06 would work. Also look at the 7mm08.  :D

I'd have to say of the two you listed the 243 Winchester would be my vote.  I seem to see more factory loads in more locations than I see of the 25-06.

If you reload then both would be no problem, multiple loads are only an hour or so away from you at any time.

I think the 243 would be a easier load to shoot for smaller framed hunters due to less recoil.  

What range are you going to be using this for?  Varmit round in the 55 gr Nolser BT range would be great also.  Then again 87 grainers out of the 25-06 would also be great.

I'd go with 55 gr BT's for the varmits and 95-100 grain loads for the deer family.

thanks guys.I do reload,and i have shot the 243 in a few different guns.I like it as much as any other cal.that is used for deer and varments.I just didnt know how accurate that cal.is in the encore,out of the box.I have a box of the 55grn.bts.and will have to try them out .Anyone have a pet load for that bullit?

For my deer loads i like the noz.prts.90-95grs.Anyone have a pet load for them in the encore?.Also what barrel lenth do you suggest? thanks a bunch for all the help.pan.

Both are comperable rounds.  The .243 can be had in a short action, while the 25-06 requires a long action.  That is the only differance and in an Encore it does not matter since there is no bolt.  Either will work and do the same job.  The only advantage is ammo availiability, the .243 might have the edge there.  The 25-06 is roughly 300fps faster, but I don't think a deer or coyote will know the differance.

A good compromise between the 7mm-08 and the 243 or 25-06 is a 6.5x55 or 260 rem. Both are similiar and the range of 6.5 bullets for reloading makes them great all around cartriges.
In 6.5cal I like 95 gr v-max bullets for varmints and 140 gr ssts for deer, pig or whatever you may use it for. You can also use 120BT,125 partitions and many other excellent bullets made in that cabliber for deer.
