PP muzzle loader bullet????
« on: January 09, 2006, 05:31:03 AM »
I cast some undersized 380 grain conicals for my bp rifle.A guy told me I could use a paper patch on them. This is how I did it.I cut strips of typing paper 3/4 wide -1 1/2 long, wet paper, wrap bullet leaving a little over the base then fold remainder over the base, let dry then lube.Ok I havent shot these yet. Will it work??I dont want paper to come off the bullet as im ramming it down the bore.Is it safe to shoot these??I dont know if you guys shoot muzzle loader or not but I guess it is a ppb right??If not ill take the a@@ chewin and go ask the black powder guys :)

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the possible seating problem.  I don't see any danger involved even if the patch gets buggered up.  Try it and see.  Only suggestion is to cut the patch length so that with two wraps of the patch, the ends of the patch are touching each other (not overlapping).

swhunter--The last 2 yrs I have killed deer with PPB loaded in my muzzleloader. The bullets should be sized to just touch the lands--not a hard push down the barrel. Your patches should be a parallelagram--about at a 35 degree angle just like on a cartridge bullet. Once it is in the barrel it wil not unravel. When you seat it, give it a bump with the rod to bump it up so it will stay put.
