....Mannlicher-style Forearm.
« on: January 09, 2006, 08:42:51 AM »
Some questions for you guys.  How long of a barrel were those Mannlicher-style forearms made for?  My single NEF is a 26" barrel .280 in camo laminate...  I bought one of those mannlicher-style forearms from NEF...  If it fits, should I buy the entire rifle(35 Whelen) and put the new forearm on it?  Or can one of those stock manufacturers, like Boyds, take my forearm and put it on a duplicating machine, making me a new mannlicher-style forearm in camo laminate so I would only need to buy the barrel?

What do you think???

I've had my Mannlicher forearms on several of my Handi barrels. One of my 30-30 barrels had the forarm stud welded slightly off center. While it caused no problems with the factory short forearm, it prevented a good fit on the longer forarm. I suggest you try the Mannlicher forearm on the new barrel before going to the expense of duplicating it. But, it would be fun to a nice laminated Mannlicher forarm!!

Thanks guys....  Ya, I guess I will just order the barrel in a few months and then see how the forearm fits.  Almost forgot, does the Whelen come with sights, or just a scope base?

The older 26" .35 Whelen barrels (RMEF Ultra barrels) came with a scope rail and no iron sights. Unknown what the new 2006 .35 Whelen barrels are going to come with, the only thing we have heard about them is they are supposed to be only 22" in length. They most likely come with just the extractor also, no ejector, a detrement in a hunting gun. Not to bad on a range gun though, but who uses a 22" 35 Whelen as a range gun?....<><....
