22-250 and Blue Dot
« on: January 10, 2006, 06:38:18 AM »
I have seen references to 14grs of Blue Dot under a 40gr bullet as a good reduced load ( approx. 22 hornet type preformance). I would like some input from an actual user, I have a Rem 700 VSSF and am looking for just such a round to eliminate some short range (less than 100 yds. ) chucks this summer. If you have had good success and do not mind sharing information please advise

Use about 38.0 grains of H380 with 40 grain hp bullets.   If chucks are 100 yards or less, wear your rain gear!!

If it is not in the book, I dont use it in my bottle neck rifle cases.  You can check with Alliant on reduced loads.

I do have some proven loads with bottle neck cases in my Contenders.  However, not with a .22 caliber with large capacity case like 22-250.

Hodgdon does have some reduced loads for youth using H4895.  It is a powder listed for the .22-250 so should work for you.

I have not tried BlueDot in my .22-250 but it works great in my .223s.  Go here for a little more info:
