I was reading the latest Boar hunter magazine and looking at 2005's biggest boars that were scored. It was funny, 300 Weatherby, 45-70, Bow and arrow, 17HMR, 308. Did I read that right, 17HMR. The second largest boar killed was by a 17HMR. That is amazing, All I ever read is that it is only big enough for a squirrel and then barely big enough.
I know it is a magnum, but WOW! I posted this here because it is a caliber and round that alot of us use and have a good idea that it is a lot more cartridge than people give it credit for. I personally think it is one of the most useful rounds to come down the pike in a long time! Would I shoot a wild boar with it?, Yes. Would it be my first choice? No. I would be comfortable using it if the right shot presented it self.
