Dirty pots in camp and forgot the scrubber?
« on: January 11, 2006, 08:47:16 AM »
Or maybe you already used the steel wool to start the fire?

Try using a wadded-up piece of aluminum foil on that dirty skillet... it will have hundreds of sharp little edges that clean up camp pots really well.
(This is an old Eskimo trick, but you don't have to be an old Eskimo for it to work  )

If you forgot the foil, then this won't work!

Happy Camping!

Salt works best, coverd this in another post on how to clean pans.

worst case scenario, sand can help.

try a hand full of sand, wet or dry, will clean up pots, works like sand paper.

I've used horsetails and they work OK.

if you have dish soap wipe it on the outside before you put it over the fire it will bake on and washing the outside will be a breeze.

waaaaayyyy back when I was a boy scout we used the sandy mud from the bank of the river where we camped to get the pot clean, then just rinsed them off.
none of us died or got sick.

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

In WWII North Africa my pop said the troops enjoyed milk the A-rabs served in tin cans until they found out how they cleaned the pots. They let the camp dogs lick the pots and then rubbed the pots out with sand. Killed the milk business.
