Stickies probably timed out.  If this site is like many others, a sticky will expire and fall back down the list to its last post late.    ...or did I miss something?

Mac and Tim are in the process of deleting their posts. They've been told by the memebership they posted too much and acted too much like they "knew it all", so they are giving you what you asked for.

I never asked for that!  Between Mac, Quick and Fred, you could get an answer to any problem you had.  I made it a point to read their posts because I was always learning off of them.

Well that's a real bummer.  :(   I have no idea what happened but I for one found Mac & Tim to be nothing but cordial and very helpful.   Not sure why anyone would have a problem with either of them.  I for one hope that they will reconcider.

Guess, I missed something.  Saw that thread, but that kind of thing does not interest me so I passed it by and did not look at it.  I will say this if a choice is to be made, give whom ever the boot and get them back.  The rules are simple here and if someone does not want to conform pull their plug.  Just like the Big Guy that we no longer mention.  Quick and Mac have too much knowledge to let them slip away.  Rog

Graybeard,

I may have missed something but I never heard anyone ask for this nor did I ever read where someone posted any names that anyone "knew it all". There may have been some assumptions, but we have to let some of that roll off our backs. We do have a lot of people that know a little something about these rifles and everyone has a contribution to the forum. I for one learn something new everytime I visit the forum and I hope that continues.

There will always be a difference of opinions and we should be able to post the differences as long as it is done with respect for the other persons opinion even if we don't agree with it. I personally don't have a problem with anyone here, I do not agree with everyones opinion nor do I expect them to agree with mine either. I will throw up a red flag if I see something that I feel is unsafe, as I hope that someone will if they think I am doing something that is unsafe. That is how we all learn.

I think what this all boils down to is that some of us get a little wrapped up in these little rifles, myself included. Others are free to come here and express their good or bad experiences, and should not have to feel bad or be attacked for it. I know my H&R/NEF's are not the best rifles/guns made but I love every one of mine and they have never let me down. Sure I have some very expensive guns too, but I find myself gravitating back to these just because they are so darn simple and practical.

Lets get back to talking about these rifles, whether we love them or not. I don't expect everyone to love thes rifles like I do. I hope everyone comes back and we can find the posts and get them back up in the stickies where they belong. The membership wanted them there and I think that is where they belong.

The stickies are still in the forum, they are however no longer stickies. I just went and found the one about the receivers. You will have to know when the last date was or do a search to find them. I have noticed that some of the pics are no longer available.

Let's talk rifles! We might even learn something in the process.

Please don't paint us all with the broad brush, Bill. A lot of us didn't reply to the threads, hoping things would calm down. Sometimes the best medicine for a forum squall is less posting, not more. I hope Tim, Mac, Fred and SS didn't view that as a lack of support.

Hoping for less heat and more light,

Rick

all I can say is I wish I'd printed or saved some of those stickies to my hard drive  they were invaluable.  Like others have said and I can join in too because I don't post a lot but read almost daily ..... I don't  know what happened and don't care to know ( ie. non of my buisness) but if I had a question it was usually  Quick or Mac that responed first with help. They will be missed and here's the ironic part eventually by those that got them mad.

Yep, some of the stickies are gone. Deal with it. If another forum member doesn't mind me paraphrasing him" This is punishment". (Thanks, Mike)

When the kids could not play nice anymore, some took their toys and went home. Not saying either side was more wrong then the other. I think everyone just needed a nap, but tempers flarred and everything went nuclear. And if they were really concerned about the new members getting helped and questions answered, they would have considered the stickies as contrubations to the public domain. I think that action or lack of same says more about personalities then anything.

Other members have ran into the same problem. They were just shouted down, and they left. What a shame.

I really don't think it was that some posted "too much". I think it was that some took themselves too serious and could not stand that others would have their own thoughts. (Of couse THAT caliber can not be done safely! If I've never done it, it's not cool! Only MY unique caliber(s) is/are cool!) Never mind that the conversation had been done many times before and and proven safe before. I don't think it mattered that it happened to be about one caliber or other, it was about personalities. The sand box spiff could of been about any subject. But subjects that are technical in nature are the easiest for sides to be formed.

Just my thoughts..Wally

Honestly, them removing the sticky's doesn't hurt anyone but the up-and-coming generation of handi-holics......I've read them and anything I can't remember I can find somewhere else

I'd like to add one more thing, since all these threads are related.....when the ".308 got booted" thread started, everybody thought he got kicked out for ARGUEING with another member.....I saw the thread and ASSUMED the same thing...I'm sorry I ASSUMED anything, because usually that leads to mis-information and the snowball effect....BUT IF a moderator would have stepped up and said what was actually going on,it would have diffused the WHOLE situation...but with everybody sitting back and letting hostility breed more hostility,it only got much worse

I really don't understand why Mac or Quick would leave over all this,it looks pretty much divided equally on the ones that seem to think they "post too much" and those of us who ENJOY their posts....you all have the privaledge of posting,so by all means POST......I don't believe those mentioned above  post just to get their numbers up and to say they do is just insulting....I post sometimes with nothing more than a wave or a "thumbs-up" but I could not care less how many posts I have

I,for one, will truly miss Mac and Quick if they decide to leave....but I'm also not going to beg grown men to stay, they can make up thier own minds...BUT,for what it's worth, you both have my support

Blame me not Mac or Quick for the lack of information shared on the .308 thread. I've been really sick and not on the computer much of late. The forums have been acting up big time. Between the two I wasn't able to make a post to tell folks why I (not Mac or Quick) took the actions I did and what specific actions I had taken. I did it about as soon as the combination of my health and the forum problems would let me. Neither Mac nor Quick knew the specifics of what action I took, only I knew it was a time out really as opposed to a permanent explusion or outright ban either. That I could have communicated better and had I not been so sick and the forums not been acting up maybe I would have.

But the blame there is mine.

Not sure what you mean in your last post. But as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less who leaves or stays. Or takes or leaves their toys (tools). This forum will go with or without any of us. New members and ideas and knowledge will keep coming and going. I was just pointing out that a person is a hypocrite to say he's concerned about new members being helped, then takes tools away from those new members. Would not of cost him anything to leave them. But, I guess it serves a personal need of his.

As bladerunner has already pointed out, these are grown men. They should be able to make up their own minds without the membership wailing about it and begging them to reconsider.

Wally,

I agree in principle to some of what you've posted just now.  I've said this in my long post on another thread, that some of Mac's posts have rubbed me the wrong way.  But, if you look at the vast majority of his posts, I believe that you'll see, as I do, that he usually makes a special effort to be considerate of the feelings of others.  In particular I remember a thread of a few months ago when I was struggling with my 38-55, and had sent it back to the factory for some work on the latch and the chamber.  John (JPH45) authored the thread and it got a bit involved.  Mac at first, really didn't get all of the issues but he eventually saw what we were getting at, and through it all, even though it was obvious to me that he was not really believing what John and I were getting at, he did it in a way that, to me anyway, was at least civil even if it was obvious he didn't (at first, and for a few back-and-forths) or couldn't believe what we were talking about.  In fact, I had a hard time with the chamber/bore issue myself (how could they at NEF have cobbled such a mismatch together and sold it to me???).  But he kept it civil and in the end accepted what we were saying as fact, and apologized for his lack of acceptance.

So, why am I defending Mac (and Tim, too)?

I've come to appreciate the extra burden that moderating this type of forum puts on a person.  we all, or most of us that post here, try to stick to the facts, as we see them.  (my opinion here).  As a member of this place I know that I try to keep my posts on a factual and open-minded plane.

How much more of an effort must it be to have the added responsibility of refereeing the discussion that goes on here?  I'm guessing that it's a heavy coat to wear.  No matter how you come down on this or that issue, you're going to tick SOMEONE off.

The easy thing to do would be to just stay out of the day-to-day threads and just warn, then delete, report to Bill, whatever went over the line.

But they have gone a lot farther, and poured a lot of effort and, IMO, honestly generous effort, into sharing what they've come to know about these rifles.

What happens to this forum if Mac and Tim do leave for good?  Will Bill allow it to continue to exist, in the absence of any moderation?  I doubt that.

Maybe I'm just a wimp, but I for one would really miss this place if Bill decided to shut it down...

Anyone want to volunteer to help carry the load?
