Well, went to load up some 8mm Mauser for the first time tonight and my manual doesn't list any of the powders that I have when loading a 195 gr. bullet.

I have on hand, H4350, Reloader 15, IMR 4064, Varget, IMR 4895. Does anyone have any load data using any of the following powders and 195 gr. bullets? Thanks

In the Hornady Manual sixth edition there are the following with 195 gr SP:

Varget 42.5 to 47.3 max
RL-15 41.2 to 47.3 max
IMR-4064 40.9 to 47.0 max.

Again this is with Hornady 195 gr SP.

Personally I don't like to load something that isn't writen in a manual in front of me at the time I'm doing the reloading. But this will give you an excuse to buy a new manual.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I know I need to get more reloading manuals. :-) I just got into reloading and have spent (to me) quite a lot of money getting started.

I am reloading for three calibers now and still have to order dies and other necessities for at least one more caliber. I hadn't realized until tonight that my reloading manual didn't have any data for the powders I have on hand.

My manual had loads for the lighter bullets for the powders I have on hand but not for the heavier ones. I researched the reloading forum back until my eyes went crossed, but still didn't find much. Thanks again

My Hodgdon 26th edition does not show any loads for a 195 grain bullet.

It does show loads for a 170 grain and 225 grain bullets.

With H4350,

170start load is 50.0 for 2339 fps; Max load is 54.0 grains for 2507 fps.

225 start load is 44.0 grains for 2084 fps; max load is 46.0 grains for 2221 fps.

If 'twere me I'd start with 45 grains. The Hodgdon book does not list primers except to say that they use large rifle primers(duh).

For someone who only loads for a few cartdidges the "One Book - One Caliber" series is what I would recommend. They are about $8 each and contain exerpts from all the most popular manuals for the cartridge in question. If you have more that a few cartridges then it is cheaper to get at least one good manual - like Sierra if you shoot their bullets, Speer if you use theirs or if you use a lot of different bullets the Lyman manual is good. The manuals that I use most often are the Hodgdon and Speer - I use their powders and bullets.

I emailed Hornady last year and asked them about the 195g bullet, they sent me the load notes for all their 8mm bullets. I just moved and all my stuff is still packed away, but it was IMR 4064 that I used, and I got a velosity of 2500 fps or so. That combo knocked the crap out of me at the bench, but all bullets were inside of an inch at 100 yards.

I reloaded 9 shells for the 8mm Mauser thanks to oliverstacy for the load data. Three rounds each of the three loads he provided me with. I used the starting loads for each.

Here is the best group of the three loads. Shot from 100 yards. Hornady 195 gr. sp with 40.9 gr. of 4064. I love my K31's but this Mauser is definitely growing on me real fast. :grin:

Do all of the K98 Mauser's shoot this good? I told my wife you guys aren't gonna believe I am shooting this rifle from 100 yards. The dime pretty much covers this group.

I purchased my son one of these when I got mine but he hasn't had a chance to shoot his yet. I am dying to know if his does this good. I always thought the K31's were suppose to be accurate but this Mauser beats my K31's.

A lot of the modern rifles won't shoot this good. I would love to see some pics of your K98's targets or your K31's. I should add that I may not be able to do this every time. Maybe I was just lucky this time.

I don't have a chronograph, wish I did. I would like to know what this load is doing as far as velocity and such. As it stands for now I don't see any reason to look for a better load combination.

I do intend on using this load for deer hunting. Anyone know any way to estimate the velocity of this load without a chronograph? Being so new to reloading I hope you overlook any questions that seem to be kinda dumb. Thanks

Glad I could be of service with the load data. Now if I could just get a group off the bat like that I'd beeee all set.

Velocity is around 2100 ft/sec according to the manual, this is with a 24" barrel.

Did you measure that group from center to center? Looks pretty small!

From center to center it is slightly less than 1/2 inch with my reloads. This rifle shot very well with the Yugoslavian mil-surplus also, 7/8 inch center to center.
