That's not a bad price for a BDL SS non-magnum, but then again it is used (even though just for an alleged "few times.")

I would honestly wait until the new T3s come out.  I saw a website somewhere where they were selling the T3 LITE STAINLESS for $536 or thereabouts, and shipping was free for orders over $449.  As such, for a little bit more money (than that USED BDL SS - of which I own quite a few) you could get a NEW Tikka, NEW MODEL.

Patience is a virtue.

thegunsource.com  list Tikka T-3 $500 range and Whitetail $400 range (good deal)  go to website, click on 'Long Guns'  'Tikka' and scroll down.

Never bought from them so don't know about shipping/customer service.

Hawkeye,

Thanks for the reply, found the website, look at Zachary's post on long action T-3's, their seems that their might and I say might be a downside to these T-3's.

Hey,
I might be all wet here, but isn't .270 Winchester .277" bullet based on a necked-down 30-06 case (in other words.....Long-Action)???????????  Hey, dbuck sounds like the T3 action is just what you need.

Oh yea, that's right.   dbuck was looking for a long action anyway. 8)

You what's interesting though - the T3s are actually LESS Expensive than the Whitetail Hunter series.

I just bought a Tikka Whitetail Hunter Stainless Synthetic in .243 for $549 including shipping. (But this was a good price given that most people sell them for about $550 to $575 PLUS shipping).

However, the gunsource sells the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in .243 for $508 and my version for $586.  That's about $80 less for the new version.  Seems kinda odd. :?

Zach, I saw the same price at gunsource, I can buy my 270 with walnut stock for 508.70, I think that would be better then syn. stock, what do you think, I've never seen a Tikka syn. stock or walnut so I don't know about the quality of the stocks.  Since this is a new rifle, I'm sure their won't be an aftermarket stock for a long time.

I like Remington's Mountain, but I notice you didn't mention anything by Winchester.  I don't know if you have something against them, but you might look towards their Classic Featherweight.  I'm also partial to my Browning A-Bolt;  I love the magazine on it!!

dbuck,

I just got the Tikka Stainless Synthetic in .243.  The synthetic stocks on the Tikkas are better than most injection molded plastic stocks.  They are better than Winchester plastic stocks, and MUCH better than Remington plastic stocks.

Tikkas Walnut, however, is VERY VERY nice.  The fit and finish is excellent.  However, I want a practical rifle that I won't mind getting scratched or even warp.  But yes, the Tikka walnut is very nice.

Well Gents,

I purchased a Howa 1500 ss 270 caliber action/barrel only and bought a Boyds laminated stock for it.  The stock came in yesterday and I'm putting it togeather today.

Will be taking it out and shooting it in the next couple of weeks and will give a range report.

Ahhhhh maaaaannn.  I really wanted you to buy the Tikka. :)   Oh well, I think that the Howa will service you well.

Regarding the Boyd's stock, is it the thumbhole version or the regular version?

Interesting thing about Boyds - I had never heard of them before this year, and apparently they produce good stocks.  I wonder where I was hiding.

Zachary, sorry about that, maybe down the road I will purchase a T-3.  Have you ever had a Howa 1500.  I go back along ways with Boyds's just for the fact that they made Match M1A stocks and match shooters just purchased them and had them bedded.

:( *^*&*^ !! Jamie boy, you just condemned a good portion of my toys.  :excuseme: I did not know I had such a worthless bunch of guns.

Let see, there is the Rem 700 BDL .270 that I bought in 1973. I did have it rebarreled in a 26" Shelin .270. It shoots in the .3-.4 range.

There is the Rem Classic in .220 swift that shoots in the .1 range

Then there is the Ruger# 1 in a 6mm that shoots groups smaller than the bullet diameter.

And there's them no good 870 pumps.

Let me see, if I get rid of all that junk, I will still have two mauser customs, a couple of Berettas one S x S and a OU, a L.C. Smith/20ga and a Fox Sterlingworth/12ga

I guess I can get by.    OO

dbuck,

I have never owned a Howa, but I was considering getting one in a .223.  Although I just love Tikkas, I will take a look at a Howa next time I'm in the gun store.

Love my Savage 111f in .270or the 110f great groups 1"/100yrds,but then it's hard to leave the 99 home 300 savage 55 years old and still going strong! or for that matter the 99cd in.250-3000 a youngster 20years old.2.5" groups The only one Ihave no trouble leaving behind is the remington 742 in.308 it's all over the paper (great round, poor rifle),I'd have to say any SAVAGE should do you well, and with the $ you save you can top it off with some good optics. :D

Zachary, Boyds makes the stocks for the Howa's from the factory. Nice wood, fit and finish. Feels very good. The wood on the Tikka T-3 looks very good but does not FEEL the same at the wooden Whitetail Hunter. I handles a Whitetail Hunter DELUXE and it had a shine like a dime, U know where. I located several Tikka Continental Varmit in Dallas, $609.00, 223 and 22-250. I have a magazine on order too from Shooters Supply in Sherman, Tx for my 243. $59.00, supposed to be in tomorrow, Friday. Showed 6 in stock. Hope mine makes it. It would just make me feel better to have an extra.
