Converting a Ruger M77/22 to .17 HMR
« on: January 14, 2006, 05:09:52 PM »
I did not realize until reading it last night on this forum that a M77/22 can be changed to .17 HMR.  What would the barrel only cost and where could I find one?  What other steps would be necessary to make this change?  Would these changes prohibit me from going back and forth with the .22 and then the .17 and vice versa?  I am eager to learn more about this.  Thanks for any input that you can offer.

Does anybody know what the Ruger 77/22 goes for?
I was at the flea market this morning and a guy was selling what he said was a brand new one with rings for $350.

He pulled it out of a soft case and it looked in exelent condition exept a 2" long scratch on the left side opposite the bolt handle, and the action was real smooth.

If I had $350 to spare I would have taken it, but I need one of those like another hole in the head.

Happy shooting

When he denotes M 77/22 I took it to be a magnum. That's how Ruger denotes any of the various models chambered for the 22 Mag.
L.R. will not have M in their model name/number.

If it was new $350.00 is not bad.

I am sorry I have been so long in replying to a question that was asked, but I have been out of town for a while and got a new computer.  But, to answer your question -- it is a .22 LR.  Thanks for your help!!

OK---a .22LR version can't be converted to .17HMR

BUT---if you can find a barrel----it can be converted to .17 MachII----with no problems----other than the barrel change.
