Trying something new
« on: January 16, 2006, 03:37:43 AM »
Hi,

I am interested in getting started handgun hunting with a revolver.  I have been using contenders and want to try something new.  I have an early 90's model Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 mag.  with 7 1/2 inch barrel.  I'm getting ready to send it to SSK to have a TSOB installed.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the effective range really is out of a 44 mag pistol?  I was thinking of using hornady 300 gr XTP'S but don't know if it is really nessary?  My maximum shot distance will be about 100 yards at Whitetails.  Also i'm thinking of getting the simmons 2-6 scope.  It is really inexpensive and I'm wondering if it will hold up to the recoil? Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert...
