Trying something new
« on: January 16, 2006, 07:59:35 AM »
Hi,

I am interested in hunting with a revolver.  I have been using a contender but want to try something new.  I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 mag with 7 1/2" barrel.  I'm wondering what the effective range really is? I will be hunting Whitetails at up to 100 yards. I was thinking of using Hornady 300 gr. XTP's.  Is that really nessary?  I am also thinging about getting the simmons 2-6 scope.  It's not that expensive.  Will it hold up to the recoil?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Rob...
