Shot new .204 handi yesterday, wow!
« on: January 16, 2006, 08:01:00 AM »
Hey gang, i'm still waiting for my 6-24x scope to show up but i had a weaver k2.5x laying around that i threw on so i could shoot the gun yesterday in between stands while calling for coyotes.

I zeroed it at 25 yrds first, in about a half dozen shots then moved to 100 yrds and by the end of its first box of ammo i had it zeroed and grouping pretty good 1-1.5" high at 100 yrds.

After another calling session with no action i ranged across a valley to the opposite side at 329 yrds. We just had a fresh 2" snow overnight so there are plenty of little dark spots in the snow to make as targets and its super easy to see if you miss etc. by the snow disturbance.

I was surprised as crap to put shot after shot exactly where i was aiming at 329 yrds! I've never had a shooting experience like that...and this with less than 40 rounds on the gun and with only a 2.5x scope and heavy trigger! I know this gun is way more than minute of coyote at that range so i'm not worried about it not being a shooter. I will get more scope on it soon enough and try to see what it can group at 100.

If its as good as i suspect its going to be then i'll put some into having the trigger lightened and a good camo paint job. Getting used to the extractor but still wish it was an ejector. Its going to shoot well enough on the first shot i think i can live with it.

I'm so impressed with this little round i will be saving for a bolt gun for the same duty and this one will by my lender 'buddy gun' for when i take newbies with me coyote hunting etc. and as a good back-up gun.

What a treat to shoot. Watching impacts in the scope at 329 yrds....very cool. Call this my 'initial impressions' post.
