Albinos and other odd critters.
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:53:50 PM »
I have seen an alibino pheasant rooster.   I was working and didn't have a shotgun with me.   Tried to catch it at first because I startled it and it ran.  Finally flew.  Came back later with gun and dog and couldn't find it.

I saw an albino deer once.  The other deer were shying away from it.  A farmer watched it for a few weeks coming into his pasture and it disappeared.  Never did hear what happened to it.

Heard of an albino (cream colored) black bear.  Sat in an orchard with donuts and predators calls for three weekends.  Could not get it to come in.  It was seen twice at night by a local resident during those three weeks, so It was in the area.  Had cubs.  May have been hiding during day due to deer season.

Anyone else see wierd looking critters?

I have only seen two. The pheasant that walked within 20 feet of my deer stand by a cornfield in 1996, wasn't a true Albino, but had a couple of large patches of white on otherwise normal coloration. In the late sixties, I was walking a cow pasture shooting gophers, and came accross an all white (can't be sure about his belly) Badger. In both instances, I remembered Native American belief on Albinos, and refrained from attempting to take them. Life is checkered with enough misfortune to risk offending a deity !!!!

No albinos but I shot a ringneck pheasant that that was blue, green and black with no regular colors.  Also I have a racoon mount that is "pink" where a normal coon is dark brown (the mask etc) and white where normally light brown.  Its eyes were normal.  One of the older taxidermist in Kansas City said he had never seen anything like it.  I shot this coon and can say for sure that it has not been doctored or messed with.
