Dive Weights suitable for casting?
« on: March 14, 2003, 06:30:26 PM »
I received a large quantity of lead dive weights from a friend whose SCUBA days are behind him.

I've been told they're pure lead... does anyone know for sure?  The weights are unmarked, and are the slotted type that fit on a dive belt.

In synopsis, do you think I've got good lead or dead weight?  I really don't know how to tell without taking the plunge and melting them down, and I certainly don't want to melt 'em down if they're alloyed with something nasty or toxic (well, more toxic than lead, that is!)  :?

Thanks guys!
