PayPal no longer accepts gun payments

Just cleaned out my PayPal account and as soon as the transfer clears, I'm closing it completely. Check out this link for a policy change on 13 March that says you can't use PayPal to pay for guns any longer.

This is no surprise, As EBAY has bought out Paypal...This changes in Policy merely reflect the anti-gun policies of EBAY.  The question is...How are they gonna know if you violate this rule?

It says:

  "Firearms
You may not use PayPal to sell or advertise any firearms produced after 1898. This includes all "pre-ban," sporting, collectible, and curio and relic (C&R) firearms, regardless of their present capability to fire a shot. "

  I take this to mean you may not advertise for sale any of the prohibited items on their 'sites. It does not say that you cannot pay for these items, via paypal, if the transaction takes place on another site. I deem it is perfectly legal to buy an item, say on Auction Arms, then pay for it thru Paypal. Matter of fact, I just sold a couple of high-capacity mags, on Gunbroker, and accepted payment for one of them via Paypal.
  Don't get me wrong, I dislike Ebay and Paypal's anti-gun slant, and would use other means to do business, if they were in as widespread use. It's just a necessary evil I have to deal with, and try to speak against whenever I have the opportunity,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

Well Bug, I know what you're saying, and they can't enforce it unless you put the little PayPal logo on your auction (be interesting to see if they make them disappear on AA and Gunbroker). But the "Acceptable Use" part of the users agreement says, "The Acceptable Use Policies below cover items bought and sold using PayPal, as well as any items sold or advertised on a website listed in PayPal Shops." and under the subheading of Firearms, "You may not use PayPal to sell or advertise any firearms" Okay, so how do you not use PayPal to sell a firearm if you use PayPal to pay for or accept payment for a firearm (isn't that the definition of making a sale)? I'm sticking to money orders or waiting the extra 3 days for a check to clear. Maybe I'll start a "GunPay" service  :roll:

Sent them an email and asked about other sites, and legal transfers on mags, firearms, etc. This is what they had to say:

shops. Any Shops found to be violating these policies will be removed
from the PayPal Shops directory. In addition violation of these
policies may result in your account access being limited or your
account being closed under the terms of the PayPal User Agreement,
regardless of whether the violation takes place through eBay or another
online market place, through the seller's own website or through any
other forum. In all transactions, sellers must clearly and accurately
describe the goods or services they are selling."

 I guess my account will go down the tubes too. These irrational, illogical people really Pi$$ me off!.......Bug.

The way I figure it, the fact that you can't sell guns on e-bay is what has kept Auction Arms and Gunbroker in business. I'd be real happy if they did away with the gun parts also. Keep me off their site completely. I haven't bought any gun parts on ebay in a long time anyway. Sold a couple barrels there 'cause the prices go way too high for sane folks. (sold a used 14" 7-30 waters for $275, go figure that one out!) But now I use gunbroker or AA if I'm going to send it to auction. I always offer it in the classified section here first though. 9 times out of 10 it never makes it to auction. Thanks GB for a great site!

:x  I just got done closing my account.  Took me a while to find where they had close account hidden at.  It was under profile rather than account.  Personally, I refuse to knowingly do business with any company that is anti-gun or wishes to infringe on my second amendment rights.

I closed my account also. I enjoyed the ease of use and never had a problem in almost 50 transactions but I refuse to do business with an outfit that wishs to ban LEGAL firearms/component sales.

It is their company to do with as they wish and it is my right to avoid doing business with them.

I heard they are waffling a little now and saying that it was only for the SHOPS feature but the email they sent me was not worded that way.
