Shorter grips on a SBH 44 Mag
« on: January 20, 2006, 09:09:46 AM »
I came across a good deal on a new stainless Super Blackhawk w/ 4 5/8'" barrel in stainless.  I was going to replace the grips with something a little fancier, but cannot find any to fit.  It has a shorter grip than my other SBH.  I
have read about a xr3 grip frame on the new vaqueros, but have seen nothing on the SBH.  Anyone know anything about this, or where I can find replacement grips? I don't even know what model of grips they would be.
Thanks

That model SuperBlackhawk has the same grip frame that is on the old style Vaquero, which is also the same size as the Blackhawk (XR3-RED). :D

Shorter grips on a SBH 44 Mag

I just picked up the same model SBH. I did my usual thing and put a Hogue Monogrip on it. I'll go to the range this weeked to try it out but it feels pretty good in my hand so far. However this is my first single action and I'm also interested in putting a set of oversize (longer) traditional grips on it in order to better let it roll with the recoil. Can anyone recommend some longer replacement grips in wood (walnut/rosewood/laminate)?

SBH's are shipped from the factory with a slightly longer gripframe than those found on the BH's and "old" Vaqueros.

Excellant article, thanks. That clears up a lot of confusion on the history. However, my new model SBH with the stock grips still seems short to me. Any ideas where I can find a set of longer traditional wooden grips?

The round triggerguard gripframe is the same as all the standard Blackhawks.
I put a set of Ajax ivory polymers on mine. They are a little wider at the back, which helps spread the recoil more evenly to your hand. They also weigh a bit more, gives the gun a real "solid" feel. Love-em

Actually the gripframes on the Hunter model SBHs have the round style triggergaurd but are the longer grip.  Also, blued gripframe son the BH's are aluminum while those on the SBHs are steel.

Thanks,
I stand corrected on the Hunter gripframe, never had one
However, the OP was refering to the SBH, on which the round trigger gripframe is the same size as the Blackhawk.
