got experience with sks receiver scope mounts?
« on: January 20, 2006, 01:15:59 PM »
I'm thinking of upgrading my sks.  I'm wondering if its worth putting one of thease on.  Seems to me that the receiver cover isn't a solid anchor for a scope :?  can you get pinpoint accuracy using one of thease? Thanks for any help! :D

There is one cover scopemount thats oversize and you have to fit it to the receiver tight to make it accurate.  On the yugo sniper sks's they used side mounts similair to the mosin mount.  I like the sidemount better because you can clean and lube the gun without up setting the scope zero setting.

I wonder if the AK47 scope side rail can be mounted on the sks so the AK scope can be used. On my next sks build i may try one.

Those scope mount are notorious for in-accuracy, I have use the foward scout mount and can atest to the fact that they hold there zero with a quality eer scope, these are normally on the lower power end from 2x to 4x, Like Jeff Copper says "Its nice to punch tiny groups in paper but its alot nicer to ring and 8 inch gong with eight shots in 15 seconds at 200 yds

I should clarify The scope mounts that were inaccurate were the origianl ones mentioned not the ones D MAN was talking I have never had any experience with those side mounts.

They actually work pretty good if you get the right ones!

I have a D C Engineering reciever mount for one of my two SKS rifles.  I choose it because it was the lowest and best reciever mount on the market when I was tricking out the rifle for my youngest son as an enducement for him to take hunter training.

I wanted a low scope mount for the Tasco Red Dot sight as the Choate plastic stock had a low monte carlo cheek piece on it and I wanted consistent head/eye to rifle relationship.

I saw a comparison of all scope mounts on the web a while back and the shocker to me was that the D C Scope mount is the second best such reciever mount.  It comes in right after a glue on to the reciever scope mount kit.

Call me old fashioned, but I like my DC Engineering low style scope mount.  When I bought the mount from them over a decade ago, I told them that my red dot sight had rings and they reduced the price from the mount plus ring value on what they sent to me.  Good folks (at least back then).

Let us know what you do.  My mount has been very accurate and had no problems, but then I am not using a 20x scope either.

Hey D MAN,

Is that the mount made by leapers, with the "tighten down" screws on the sides?

I have the one like that and on sighting it in on my last shot in the "X" ring the dam scope came loose on my next mag full of ammo. I don't like some of the cover mounts.
There is one with no side screws that is made over size that needs fitting its suppose to be the best cover mount.
I just put a mosin type sidemount scopemount on my sks like the one in the yugo pics.  But now i'm looking into an AK style rail and an AK scope.  It may work even better because its a side mount too.

The sks can be very accurate with the right setup.

Had an sks that I put a receiver mount on.  It was one of the oversize type that I had to finish fit.  I fit it tight, and it shot great however this rifle shot great with open sights.  But it did improve the groups. Just my experience.
