The H&R Golden Buffalo Classic

Tradition, history and American craftsmanship combine to create today's Harrington and Richardson rifles, continuing a legacy that began in 1871. The Harrington and Richardson 45/70 Government Buffalo Classic is a true American classic. Modeled after the Frank Wesson tip-up rifle that were first made in Worcester, Massachusetts in the 1850s, this rifle fills the need of the long-range Cowboy Action Shooter as well as those who simply enjoy shooting these great old cartridges. Our Golden Buffalo Classic reflects true 19th century styling, including antique color case hardening on the frame and crescent butt plate, plus cut checkering on their American black walnut stocks and fore-ends. The distinctive gold embellishment and special serial number range offer the shooter, collector a superior grade rifle and an outstanding value.

Hm.  I have one of these rifles, serial number is 0000338.  Guess H&R decided to make more than 300?  Or is there another model (that looks just like this one)?

They run limited editions like this for multiple distributors.  The one pictured was for TALO and they were serial numbered GB001-GB300, yours was most likely produced for a different distributor hence the lack of a prefix in the serial number.

Well, that is an interesting marketing strategy.  Kinda puts a hazardous spin purchases for those who might want to collect these vice shoot 'em.  So I reckon that my Golden Buffalo is more likely a Brass Bull, and as a collector or limited edition, not of any particular value other than the cost of a Buffalo Classic.

Fortunately I bought it because I liked the way it looked, not to collect.  So any reservations I had about modifying a limited edition rifle by mounting a pseudo-tang sight are no more.  Look out walnut... here comes the Dremel!

My serial # is WH 710228, I was told also there was only going to be 300 made and that I had the 228 th. one made.

Hiya Lucky Joe,

Who gave you that information?  Was it H&R?  The shop that sold it to you?  Or someone else?  I am curious, as I see that there is a bit of misinformation surrounding the Golden Buffalo Edition of the Buffalo Classic.  I am toying with the idea of writing a note to H&R and ask for clarification from the source...
