Winchester 190 ??
« on: January 21, 2006, 09:25:32 AM »
Hi guys,
I just came back from the gunstore and bought a winchester 190 22cal.
I think I got a good deal on it  it looks in good shape. I bought it ,well I had some money burning a hole  and I needed to get something from there anyway... we all know how it goes. Anyway with winchester soon to be no more I figured I really couldn't go wrong on it plus I don't have a winchester in my collection. Can anyone give me some information on this firearm as far as quality I realize this is the sort of think usually done before you purchase a gun, but stuff happens!
 Thanks
OK, here we go

I've got a model 250, which is pretty much the same thing, except in lever action. I love it. It was my first gun when I was 12, and it's wonderful. Points and shoulders like a wand. It'll put all kinds of different brands of ammo into a 1/2 hole at 25 yards, which will take out any squirrel. That thing's a workhorse. There's nothing like having a good workhorse .22 in your gun rack. Hope you enjoy it.
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

I have a Model 190. My grandfather bought it while I was with him as a child. It shot okay, but would jam often. He and I together took it to a gunsmith for repair. As I remember they replaced something, but it still jammed. He gave me the rifle when I was a teenager (this is the only one). I shot it some but it always had a problem feeding. As of the last couple of years I wanted to try to repair it. I took it to another gunsmith that did not offer me much hope. He said he could disassemble, clean and oil it for about $60. I passed and decided to do it myself. I found that the shell guide was slightly bent. I worked on it but could not get it right, so I found a used trigger assy. that I purchased. At this time I have replaced the shell guide and have it ready for the next fire trial.

When it is firing, I shoot it very good for open sights. Not sure what it is worth (To me it is priceless).

That is all that counts.  Enjoy.
