After a week of 70+ temps and high winds, this Sat. was cooler (45+/-) with light wind from the north. Perfect day to get on those yard and fence projects. Wife has gone for the day to a yoga certification class, so I head off to Home Depot to get some stuff--but I took a wrong turn and ended up at the range. Imagine my surprize when I found the gun and kit in the back of the truck.
First a "quick" stop at Cabelas for more powder (that is only about 20 miles out of my way). Decided to try the Pyrodex P, instead of the 777 I have been shooting.
Also, I am trying some Hornady 250 gr. XTPs with MMP sabots. First 5 shots were way off bullseye, but understandable I suppose since I had taken the scope off since the last range day to check the base screws. I started with 95 gr. of powder. I did like the grouping:
So I fumbled around with the scope settings and also tried different powder loads. At 85 gr. for example, the group was spread out to 3.25". Finally came back to the 95 gr. for this final group:
I am swabbing between each shot and also had pulled the breech plug and cleaned more extensively before the last three shots. The Pyrodex P shots much dirtier than the 777.
I'll work on those projects tomorrow.
