Bowen Or Millet Rear Sight?
« on: January 21, 2006, 04:44:00 PM »
I just ordered a Ruger Super Blackhawk stainless 4 5/8" through my local dealer- sooooo excited! My question is I plan on replacing the rear sight and I cant decide on a Bowen tor Millet target style sight. Is the bowen worth $35 more? Will the millet go right on or will it reqire fitting? I also plan on a Wolff Spring kit and a Belt Mt. #5 base bin.

Thanks guys

I got the Bowen Rough Country, it is a very rugged sight. They also make a micrometer click style like the Millet for about $65.00. The Rough Country is $90.00. :-)

yes I would go with the micrometer click style.
Thanks for your replies
But what is the quality diference between the Bowen and Millet? Is the bowen worth spending that much more?

Yes, the Bowen is worth the money.  I prefer the target model over the Rough Country, but that's just me.

Don't want to hijack your thread but since you're asking about SBH sights I thought my question would fit. I just picked up a ne stainless 4 5/8" SBH last week and I'm wondering about the sights as well. Based on what I've read on this board I'm probably going to go with the Bowen. However I'd also like to find a drop-in front blade with a white dot or a fiber-optic pipe. Does anyone make replacement front blades that will pin in to the existing ramp? Or will I have to send it off to have a new ramp installed?

Also wanted to let you know that I bought the Wolff spring kit but after cleaning, polishing, and working the action several hundred times in front of the TV I can't imagine how it would improve things. I'll probably sell it or stuff it in a drawer. My base pin also appears to be be nice and snug. All in all, I am extremely happy with my first single action revolver. I've had 2 Super Redhawks but they don't compare to how "right" this SBH feels in the hand.

You will have to get a new sight base from Weigan Combat for $36.00. Then you can chose whatever front sight you want, with the option of spring loaded (my choice) or pinned. Hope this helps.

I own both Bowen's and Millett's and both are fine. I have had one Millett on a M29 S&W for 20 years or so with many, many rounds fired and it has performed beautifully. You will not regret getting a Millett, I haven't.
