Dang. Server problems and I haven't gotten here much.
Critter,
I'm a Knight fan but even I will tell you to skip the .52's for the reasons mentioned. You'd have to get in to casting your own bullets if they ever got discontinued. It would mean a custom mold but they can be made.
Knight is not as popular as they once were. If you take a knight into a gun shop your lucky if you get $100 for it. No kidding!
True, Knight isn't as popular as they were but it's not Knight's fault. The company is part of a corperation that is telling them what to make. In other words suits are dictating to the engineers what to make. This is a huge problem and is the reason I believe Knight is on a downhill slide.
Knight was founded by Tony Knight then later was sold to the Watley family in 1990. In 1998 Modern Muzzleloading was sold to Ebsco.
http://www.ebsco.com/industries/acquisition.stm Now I'm not sure when the Original Disc Rifle came out but the Super .45 was introduced around 2000. And the 50 version was out at least a couple years before that. I'd almost bet that the Disc was introduced before the company was bought by Ebsco. At that time the Disc rifle was king of the muzzleloaders.
In 2002 the Inline industry changed and the Company was caught with it's pants down. The suits running Knight still don't know what to do. That doesn't mean that Knight makes bad rifles, just ones not popular with the majority of hunters.
Knight seems to be a big fan of the old "razor-razor blade" marketing theory. That is, sell the gun at a reasonable price, then make even more money off of you by charging you for proprietary supplies every time you pull the trigger. This is why I have never bought a Knight; I refuse to be locked in by their Disc system.
For hunting the Disc's make sense. They're not too much different than a 25 ACP conversion for the Encore/Omega exept that you can only get them from Knight and the 25 ACP is made by a few companies.
Look at the 45. In theroy (B.C. , efective range, etc) we would all want one. If you ran a poll how many of us use one? Why?
Knight mostly discontinued the 45's for 2006 so I'd guess they agree with you. I just got one myself. 45 Disc Extreme Thumbhole. It's just something else to play with. The .45's are more picky but I like a challenge.
