mini mauser thread shank length
« on: January 23, 2006, 04:10:52 AM »
Hello to everyone,

I am building a 6mm PPC with a new charles daley mini mauser action.

My gunsmith mentioned that this action doesn't have a shoulder inside like the '98 actions and asked me if there was any information available as to the length of the thread shank on these actions.

I did a search on charles daley's web page and they do not give this spec, nor was there any included with the action.

Does anyone have any experience with these actions? or know a referance to find such information? (web page or a manual)

  Thanks in advance, Rvtrav

I don't have personal experience, but from what I understand they are a metric thread, the same as the old Mark X mini-mauser actions. I'm not sure you can find info on these either, but it might help in your search.

By the way, I just received the Charles Daly newsletter and they are no longer importing these into the US. Remington has bought the rights and will be selling these as one of their "international" models. And from the way the newsletter reads, Remington will probably not be offering them as actions or barreled actions either; complete guns only. Ain't that just the pits!!!

Thanks Springer,

CRUD! after seeing how this panned out I was planning on making a .222 with one of these actions, and several buddies were interested in my PPC rifle. If it shot good, I think that an order for several of those actions was in the future........ohhh well......so it goes...

I built a 7 BR on one of the Chas Daly mini mauser actions.  Can't remember much about the shank other than the thread is indeed metric.
Will offer some advice on these actions before you invest a lot of money into your project.   From experience I had a lot of difficulty making my rifle feed through the magazine.  In addition it would only hold three rounds.   If you keep it a 223 it probably would operate much better.  For what it's worth.  Don

If I recall correctly , the current actions are a 22x1.5 mm thread. Be advised they are hard, with specs at 59 on the Rockwell "C" scale. I found this out the hard way in trying to open my boltface from .455 to .473 for a 6mm BR. The bolt face didn't cut cleanly even with with Carbide and I now have a crack forward of the bolt lug on the edge of the rim recess. Have been trying to buy a new bolt body with the .473 face from Charles Daly for 9 months now with no success. Remington now has the contract for Mausers and no one there knows anything about parts yet. Spare bolt, anyone?
