Heck, as I was taking the test, I was a little concerned that it wasn't properly scoring my answers.  I was born in Texas, and except for a couple of years in the Service, have lived my whole life in the Lone Star State.  My answers were occasionally coming up as common to other areas of the US.

But................here's my score............

It is amazing how accurate some of these tests are.

Born and raised in Wyo and worked only in the western states, but my outfit in Viet Nam had lots of southern boys. Wasn't long before I had a drawl too. We made a trip through the southeast last spring, partly because I wanted to see some of the battlegrounds, but also because southern talk is music to my ears. It will be a sad day when we all have the same accent as the boob tube

Took the test and scored 80% Yankee.  No surprise as have lived in upstate NY for entire life.  Love to visit the south and look forward to 2-3 months in Florida every winter.  Friendly discussions in south about sports and sporting teams are no different than when at home argueing about Yankees vs Red Sox.

Do you realize that the term "red neck" is actually a YANKEE term and the originals were in fact yankees? The term came from the red bandanas worn around the necks of a bunch of mine workers who were protesting. I seem to recall in PA.

It came from when they were trying to unionize the mines and it was Pennsylvania and Verginie. They miners who wanted the union wore red bandanas to identify each other when the shooting started.

I believe you are referring to The Battle of Blair Mountain in the 1920's , when West Va. miners squared off with mine owners over unionizing.  However this not where the term orginated from. The word was used much earlier in history to describe the field laborers.

I only scored 40% Dixie.  Grew up in northern Minnesota and spent the last 33 years in Hawaii.  Cant get any more southern than that!  So what's the deal?  Oh yea, Hawaii isn't "Southern" is it.  We do have a country music station.  That should count for something.
