« on: January 23, 2006, 05:37:30 PM »
The theme of the seminar is "Sixguns - Dissolving the Myth-Discovering the Potential".

The seminar starts with classroom presentation of general sixgun knowledge, models, caliber and accepted potential. This moves into the follwoing areas:

Ballistics
Pressure Data
Safety Factors
Accuracy
Bullet Performance
Long Range Accuracy
Effectiveness on big game

We expect to do a lot of shooting, penetration tests in wet newsprint and bone. Everyone shoots and tests their favorite loads, big bore rifles compared to handguns, Taylor Knock-Out theory. This is a hands-on shooting seninar with everyone invoved in shooting. Breaks will be taken and questions answered as they arise during the course of the seminar.

The range at Bryam can handle shooting out to 300 yards.

The seminar is 3 days and costs $200 per ticket. Free to spouses and children under 16. We are looking at catfish dinner on Friday night.

There is a Days Inn at Byram that is about one mile from the range we are looking at holding the seminar.

I may be reached at 601-845-2351 and will post updates as we get more details ironed out.

Man I can't wait. I've been trying to get to Wyoming for two years. That won't be but a two hour drive for me. I'll be on the lookout for updates. :-)

This will be great. I live in Byram and am a member at the range. Could you provide the date and time?

Thanks,

Greg

UPDATE

Dates for the seminar have been set for May 11, 12, & 13, 2006. I am working on getting a block of rooms at the motel in Byram (about one mile from the range) and will have the meeting room lined up soon as well.

This can only work with a commitment from those who are interested. Tickets for the seminar may be purchased directly from John. Please be sure you indicate this is for the Mississippi seminar. His mailing address is P.O. Box 455, Cody, Wyoming 82414. I do ask that you email me and let me know you are planning to attend that I may keep a headcount for planning purposes.

Count me in.  It's only about a three hour drive for me.  Can't wait.  I will order my ticket soon.  Keep me posted.

At this time do you have any idea of the daily schedule?
First figure out what it is and what it ain't and thats generally a good place to start.

Nothing detailed or rigidly structured.  Mostly just spend morning in "sessions" and shoot in the afternoon.  I'll have that worked out a bit closer to the actual dates.

We will be meeting at the Byram Community Church for the "classroom " portions of the seminar.  The church is located about one-half mile east of I-55 on Florence-Byram Road.  It is on the north side of the road.  The range is located on the east side of the Pearl River.  To get there, continue on Florence-Byram Road for about a mile.  ONce you cross the railroad tracks and bridge, look for the first right (immediately following the bridge).  Entrance to the range is through a green double gate.

Currently, John Gallahger, Thad Rybka, and Hamilton Bowen are planning to attend as well. There is a wealth information available from these men.

The agenda as it stands now is:

Friday - May 12

8:00-9:00 Registration

9:00-12:00 Discussion of handgun potential, accuracy, customizing, etc.  Our presentors will be available to answer questions.

12:00-1:30 Lunch (on your own)

1:30 - until Penetration tests and shooting at the range

Saturday - May 13

8:00- 12:00 Gunsmithing workshop (we break out the files and sandpaper and perform a Bisley conversion)

12:00-1:30 Lunch at the range

1:30- until Penetration testing and shooting at the range

Sunday - May 14

8:00 - 12:00 Range will be available to those brave enough to risk Mama's ire and wrath for spending your time shooting when you ought to be with her.

Notes:

Bring anything you want to test.  This is a "run what you brung event".   We will have several large rifles as well as a wide selection of handgun calibers.  Bring plenty of questions, it is not often this knowledge is gathered in one place.

Registraion fees will be collected at the door.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or special needs that I may be able to assist you as much as possible.  I amy be best reached by email at rjmillette@riflemag.com.
