I ordered a russian nagant revolver its a unique looking pistol. I read the gap on the cylinder closes to the barrel when its fired. Any opinions?

They have a horrible trigger pull. I have 2 of them. I use 32-20 brass and cast bullets - I have never shot real nagant ammo in mine.

I just ordered a box of new ammo for it and i may reload new brass for it but i'm not sure how much i'm going to shoot it. I'll see how it shoots first with one box of ammo. Lets face it the name says it all NAGANT to me means its not a modern gun but it works and its probably made solid as a rock. I figure its a Mack Truck revolver?

D MAN - Mcak Truck revolver - na! They are clunkers, sort of. Unique design but way underpowered. Had one once - had to make brass from 32-20s and the loads were not impressive at all. There was a recent article on those in a Shotgun News that can give you lots of information about the revolers and loads. HTH. Mikey.

Mine are accurate enough for short range bunny popping if you can handle the trigger pull. I didn't need to do any adjusting to the sights which was nice. I load to around 32 Long power. I made up some snake shot loads, but haven't seen a snake since. My kid likes pinging pinecones with the snake loads. The cylinder freespins unless cocked so it was the gun of choice for Russian Roulette - I'm not a player so can't really comment on it :-)

I got an excellent 1939 Tula russian nagant with accessories. Its a neat old revolver. I may get another one.

I have a '38 Tula D/A and a '25 Tula S/A...I only fire the Russian surplus from SOG...

Fun guns to shoot, but you won't win any trophies with them...they are what they are...have fun :grin:

I have yet to fire mine...... dont' really care if I do it's more of a curiousity for the collection than a practical weapon. I have given the trigger enough of a squeeze to see what was going on and it does have a tremendous trigger pull................... :-D :-D

Probably a great gun up close as long as you don't have to fire it all day long......

I purchased a box of Fiocchi and some russian yellow box 7,62 nagant ammo. I'm not going to fire it much maybe just a little.

The pull in double action can be stout.

Try it in single action, it's surprisingly accurate. I go out to my local range and am able to hit a gallon milk jug at 50 yards consistantly with 32 SW long ammo. The recoil is very mild. The biggest complaint I have is the leading.

I wouldn't want to have to reload in a hurry though!!!!

Have any of you tried that?
The Fiocchi Ammo is good stuff, But the Yellow Box Russian
is very underpowered. A 100 grain hollow base wadcutter at about
600 fps. Single action mode mine is pretty accurate, Double action
you can forget it. This is one cartridge that I have never seen in military surplus. The Russians must be holding on to the military stuff, It supposedly sent a 98 grain FMJ at about 1050 fps. I would like to have about 1000 rounds of that! HOTSHOT was supposed to be manufacturing
new stuff for the Nagant but it never materialized.

I have fired .32H&R mag without issue but I mainly stick to .32S&W longs. None of them have given me any problems. 8 times out of 10 gravity will clear the cylinder, one or two cylinders "may" require a tap or two to dislodge the empty. The brass apparently isnt swelling much, if any.

FIRED ONLY 32 LONGS IM MY REVOLVER. JUST BOUGHT A BOX OF FIOCCHI NAGANT AMMO, AM CURIOUS TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE.
