« on: January 24, 2006, 11:55:43 PM »
i can get a new crossman quest 800x in .22 for about $130 shipped....
http://www.airgun-express.com/displayprod.asp?str=P2FyPTEmbWlkPTUmcGlkPTMwNC0xMS04MDIy

or a referb benjamin 932 in .22 for about $85 shipped...
http://www.airgunexpress.com/Reman%20Rifles%20and%20Pistols/remanbenjaminmodel392airriflecombo115-48-0392.htm

which would be more durable for hunting and plinking?i know theyre two different animals....springer vs. pumper .im not really worried about the pumping though as im not gona be a hard core hunter with it .

am i correct that with the benjamin/pumper that i can use any scope since it wont have the double recoil of the springer?

also it seems that springers are usually overated as far as pellet speed goes but that pumpers are usually closer to spec so im thinking there wont be much difference in their power/impact in the real world..am i correct?

 thanks for your opinions

springer versus pumper

I think you would have more fun with the pumper. The springer is harder on scopes. While pumpers are not known for pinpoint precision, they are fine for rabbits or cans.

Springers are often over sold when it comes to advertisments of speed. You have to know which pellet they are testing, or better yet just get the energy rating for the gun and you can roughly determine the speed with either weight pellet.

I have TX and HW springers, and even a USFT for FT competition, but when it comes to a rabbit, I reach for a vintage Daisy 880 pumper cause it is more fun.

Get them both!

What was said above is right on. The springer takes a tole on scopes. You'll pay the same for a scope as what your looking price wise for your gun.

The springers are normally listed at velocities with the lightest pellets. I Own a RWS 54 . Its listed at 900 fps. The pellets that preform best gets me around 750 fps. If I were to use the pellets they tested with, The down range foot pounds would be to little to be effective on small game.

I love the pump guns. Prior to My 54 I owned a Sheridan in 20 Cal. The gun was very powerful and light to carry. It will also handle a cheap scope well.  It has enough power for close game like squirrels, rabbits and vermin. The pellets used to be hard to find but now they come in all different shapes and brands.

Both of the guns you posted are good guns. If it was me I'd save a few more bucks for a Sheridan in 20 cal. It will be a gun that will last you a life time. Good luck . Let us know what you decide
There is no limit on what you can do, if you limit what you have been doing in the past.
