"Old Shotgun casings",..an inquiring mind would li
« on: January 25, 2006, 01:23:00 PM »
Hello to all;   :D
I am new to this forum, just signed on tonight. I have found some old Shotgun casings last weekend while detecting and wondered if anyone might be familiar with the stamped-in designations on them??? I have (5) of them, all made of Tin, not brass. (2) of the five have the following stamped into the metal: U.M.C.CO. MAGIC,.....one is a No 16, and the other is a No 12,..............the other (3) are all No 12, with one being stamped U S DEFIANCE, another stamped: LEADER, with a date of 1901,.......and the last one stamped: REPEATER, also with a date of 1901.
Also, is anyone a collector out there? Anyone got any idea if they are valuable or not.
Thanks, Gary

The UMC are worth around $5 each, if in good shape. The 16ga. maybe a little more. The Defiance I'm not sure on, as they don't come for sale enough to judge past sales. The Leader will go about $7-$10 if it's in good condition.
 Hope this helps.

Hay Marlinman 93, THANKS for your reply and help.  I also just found another one at the same location with the stamped-in designation:  No. 12 PETERS   TARGET
