Best Semi-Auto Huntng Rifle I ever shot in my whole life was
« on: January 26, 2006, 01:33:10 PM »
My friend's  Browing BAR Lightweight, with alloy receiver,  20 inch barrel, in .308 Winchester.  Lightening fast, very pointable, quick on target, almost no recoil.

I don't own a semi, but other than to get some larger caliber (like a .35 Whelen), I can't imagine why anyone would buy any other semi rifle.
Any used v.g.  BAR beats any new Remington 7400 hand down.

Just opinions.

My big game is limited to deer & bear, so I'll go with the .308 carbine. Great to have that to look forward to. I like the looks of the 750 over the new Browning short trac. Satin finish vs gloss.

I have a browning BAR lightweight stalker in .300mag and I agree its the best semi auto out there. I had a rem 742 but it jamed alot, I like my browning 100% better.

M1A

I had a BAR Safari in 300 mag with the BOSS system, an excellent rifle. The things I did not like about it was the magazine configuration and the extremely loud muzzle blast. Otherwise I loved this gun. I did trade it for a Springfield M1A. I decided all I needed for deer was the great 308. As any one from WI knows there is an abundance of deer and deer tags. So,, I have better clip options with the M1A and have used it effectively on multiple deer in a single shooting event. It is scoped with a leopold 1,75x6 and works well with this scope for fast shooting. I also love this gun. It has a rich military history that continues to grow. There  is an abundance of after market options that make this gun even more interesting. There is one draw back, this gun is heavy, 9.5 pounds before the clip, ammo, scope mounting hardware and scope. After carrying it for a couple of days it seems to get lighter. The thought of a light short action bolt rifle is tempting. Maybe not, I will lift weights until the M1A seems light. I am a big guy 6'3" and 220 pounds, I need a big gun like this! Right!

The best semi-auto I have shot so far is the Russian Izhmash Saiga Sporter w/16" barrel in 308win and synthetic stock not only is it $307 OTD price tag its very accurate too with iron sites she can shoot 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds using south african fmj ammo.  I have heard of others shooting it from 200yds to 400yds+ too.  It has the battle proven AK47 design and its a sporting hunting rifle.  It has the russian quality too with its chrome lined bore and chamber too.  I like the quick ease of the complete take down too for cleaning it.  Its one of the greatest advantages having the ease of cleaning after hunting in a day of rain. You have to check these out I think this will take our gun market by storm.  Its affordable and has the russian quality. I just lube them up with moly and let them rock.  All you have to do is to try one and you will see what i mean.  They come with a 16" & 22" barrels too and i have heard that both of them are equal in accuracy at 100yds too.  This rifle sure beat my remington semi-auto.

Check them out so to;  www.raacfirearms.com  your local dealer should have them by now too.

This is my very first AK designed rifle too I was never fond of them till i shot this russian saiga in 308.
