new ccw shooter?
« on: January 27, 2006, 07:34:54 AM »
i have been thinking abt getting something to carry
i abt have it narrowed down to several
first off i like glock but i also like the 45acp round and the only glocks that are chambered for it are to thick thru the grip to get hold of properly
i tried a ruger p97doa it felt good in my hand but damn is it ugly!!
i know (looks arent supposed to mean anything) i understand they have discontinued the p97 anyways it only holds 7/8 rounds but it is a couple hundred bucks less than the glock
last but not least is the new springfield xd in 45acp coming soon to a toystore near you
it holds 13/14 rounds and is supposed to do it in a 9/40 sized shooter
but again it is suggested around 550 bucks
if any of this mess makes any sense to any of you guys please explain it to me
i know i have to figure out what floats my boat
but anyway any advice on this would be appreciated
thanks

You should give the CZ 75 compact or the CZ 2075 RAMI a hard look. Do a little reading on it and I bet you will at least put it in your list of potentials. Can be had for about $400 and worth twice that.  If your wanting something bigger than a 9mm or a 40cal then the CZ 97 45acp is also a very fine weapon that is slightly larger but just as good.
I have the RAMI in 9mm as my carry gun and just ordered the 75b today.  The RAMI shoots incredibly well for a short barrel gun and everything about it is just top notch.

You can do some reading on the CZ line of handguns at the link below. I think you will wonder where they have been your whole life.

I've shot a CZ in .40 caliber and absolutely loved it-wonderful gun.
That being said, every time I hold an XD in my hands, it feels like it was MADE for them, and being of small stature with small hands, that's a large feat these days where every handgun seems made for the Incredible Hulk. I've never fired one, though, so I don't know how they shoot at all.
I can vouch for the CZ-75 and its derivitaves, though. I've never held one that didn't shoot well, though they are a bit on the heavy side for me for CHL use.
As for Rugers..
My exe's father worked for a county DA and carried a Ruger .45 simply based on the fact that it went bang every single time he shot it with whatever he put through it-for him, accuracy and capacity were fairly secondary to that.
