Howdy,
We used to use whatever room we had on the range for target placement. I set up a stage at the IN State Championship that had six rifle targets at 35 yards and three at 50. The closest was 16" and the farthest were 24" in diameter. You should have heard the complaints. My daughter, 12 at the time, said, "But, Daddy, isn't that what rifles are made for?"
Many clubs have one Main Match meet each month, and a Side Match meet two weeks later. Side Match Day is devoted to Long-range events, speed shotgun, rifle, and pistol, derringer, pocket-pistol, team-shoots, etc. That sounds like what you are after.
A typical Side Match day at Big Rock Range, Hanover, IN began with four-man teams, then some cowboy clays, and finally long-range pistol caliber rifle, big-bore lever, and big-bore single-shot. Some of the shooters didn't care for the slower shooting events, and would posse-up and shoot the four or five main match scenarios. On the way from the rifle-range, there would be close pocket-pistol and derringer ranges set up, and there would be a main match scenario for .22 rimfire.
Check with your local clubs to see how much interest they have in promoting side matches like long-range rifle. They can be a lot of fun and very low-pressure.
